 Recently, I read an interesting article by Loga Muniandy that made me think differently about one of the most common household appliances—the refrigerator. When we talk about inventions that changed the world, we usually think of the internet, cars, airplanes, or computers. The article suggests that the fridge may have had an equally profound, though much quieter, impact on the way we live and behave. Before refrigerators became common, people bought, harvested, or prepared only what they needed. Since food spoiled quickly, there was little reason to store large quantities. If there was extra food, it was often shared with neighbors or the community rather than wasted. The refrigerator changed this pattern. It gave us the ability to preserve food for days or even weeks.
